Behind a Dying God

Working on Portents of a Dying God included pushing how much I wanted to custom the entire product — not just with custom packaging. First, I created a custom font using the Fontself app on my iPad.

The second thing I created for this project was the custom d4 dice, which I refer to as “Thorn” d4s. Both are technically six-sided structures, with two opposite faces having curved prodigious “thorn” shapes protruding out which prevent the dice from landing on those sides. One functions as a d4, and the second is what is referred to as a four-sided d2.

Portents of a Dying God

May the fervor of your prayers match the power of your fears . . .

Portents of a Dying God is an “Omen Sacrifice Deck” designed specifically for Mörk Borg under the Third Party License. This deck allows players to give up a character’s omen at the beginning of a playing session (or during a break) and exchange it for a “reading” that gives the character a portent. Exchanging an omen for a portent with Portents of a Dying God is a simple and quick two-step process that involves drawing a random card from a deck and then rolling either a d2 or a d4 depending on the card drawn when the player chooses to use it.

When a card from the Portents of a Dying God is activated by the player on a turn of their choosing, additional chaos, misfortune, and dark humor may or may not be brought into the game scenario – your die roll determines whether your prayer is answered. . . or not.

Portents of a Dying God consists of:

  • 33 Portent cards
  • 1 sturdy deck sleeve with instructions to hold the deck
  • 1 custom “thorn” d4
  • 1 custom “thorn” 4-sided d2
  • 1 coffin-shaped box to contain the deck
  • 1 deck platform box that doubles as a die tray
  • 1 folder that contains additional lore and scrolls – doubles as a GM screen
  • 1 Mörk Borg one-shot adventure that your players will never forget or forgive you for.
  • 1 A5 sized slipcover to hold everything together in a tidy package

The “thorn” d4 dies that come with Portents of a Dying God were designed by Matt Johnson and are exclusive to this product.

Portents of a Dying God is an independent production by Raven Portents and is not affiliated with Ockult Örtmästare Games or Stockholm Kartell. It is published under the MÖRK BORG Third Party License.

Good Morning Galgenbeck!

Is this a reference from any of the cards in Portents of the Degloved Hand? No, not directly. However, as a way to illustrate how this deck of Portents works, we’re delighted to present this little scene and bring it back around to the sticker all of our backers will be receiving.

A Long Awaited Update . . .

What a busy time the past nine months have been! Fortunately, it has not been wasted because —
Portents of the Degloved Hand goes live on Kickstarter on Wednesday, April 5th!

In late summer of 2022, Raven Portents joined forces with legendary Exalted Funeral to help make this project a reality for the Mork Borg community.

Kickstarter Project: Portents of the Degloved Hand

The first endeavor for Raven Portents is an exciting Third Party License expansion for Mork Borg, one of the coolest, darkest, and funniest Old School style RPGs around. This particular project is a card deck that allows the players to leverage one of their attributes in a unique way. We’re very excited about sharing it with the Mork Borg community once it is live on Kickstarter!
